Our Puppy Training Processes and Techniques
Anam Cara Pups uses a combination of different dog training methods like positive reinforcement while also integrating light correction/redirection techniques in certain circumstances, like:
- Sounds
- Snapping of Fingers
- Light Touches to Draw Attention
- Removal from a Situation
- Quiet Time for Resetting
We immediately correct undesirable behavior, as even a 2-minute delay would result in a clueless puppy wondering why they’re being corrected for something they don’t remember doing.
Free Shaping
Free shaping is an effective way to demonstrate how a puppy should react, even for different dogs. Let them figure out how to interact with an object by giving them an idea of what you expect them to do. They’ll start attempting to do what they think you were asking for, and you reward them as they get closer to your target. It sounds super relaxed and can feel like a trust-the-process thing at times.
Positive Reinforcement
We have used heavy correction methods in the past, and the difference between dogs trained using the punishment approach from those who enjoyed a more loving approach is very apparent. Our positively trained dogs respond better to our calls, and we have developed a better relationship with them. Our 9-month-old puppy will seek opportunities to do tasks that merit her a treat or kisses on her nose.
The ones trained with positive reinforcement are eager for attention and are excited to be with you, while the ones trained with punishment usually comply out of fear of our “demands,” stiff and distant. They all snuggle and love us, and we love them; but one obeys out of duty or fear, while the other obeys out of eager love and desire.
Puppy Rearing
We take pride in every puppy we produce and do our best to create puppies that are happy, healthy, and confident and are capable of becoming your Anam Cara. Some of the techniques we work with puppies are ENS (Early Nerve stimulation) and ESI (early sent introduction), proper socialization, sound desensitization, doggie door training, potty training, Crate training, and an early basic introduction to proper treat etiquette/basic training.
By doing all of this, we strive to have a solid foundation for our puppies to go home ready to learn and become a part of your family. Our puppies are raised in the center of our home to become accustomed to coming and going of ourselves and any guests as well as the average household home sounds.
Between ENS, ESI, Doggy door training, and proper socialization, our puppies are confident, happy dogs who trust in their families to provide for their needs as well as safety.
Our Doggy Door training, crate training, and potty training all assist in setting our families and puppies up for success. We begin Crate training-introduction at 3-4 weeks, and they are successfully sleeping in their own kennels by week 6. In potty training, we introduce both sent and texture to signal to go potty starting at 2 to 3 weeks, and this translates extremely well to potty pad training at 4-6 weeks and outdoor potty training at 5-8 weeks. Our puppies are introduced to the doggy door starting at 3-4 weeks old and are successfully utilizing the door to go from food on one side to the other to potty and back to the food on their own beginning at 5-6 weeks. We feel all of these processes give the puppy the best foundation to become a successful member of our Anam Cara Pups families.
If you are interested in adding one of our puppies to your home, reach out for availability in our current or upcoming litters.

Transport Process
We take great pride in providing a safe and comfortable trip for your puppy. We provide the carrier that is only used for your puppy as well as pee pads to provide a safe place for your puppy to relieve themselves. We try to maintain contact with you as the family to both keep you up to date with our arrival and any delays, as well as sending updates on the puppy and picutres to help you feel like part of the journey. We snuggle and play with your puppy while we are waiting to help the puppy relax and sleep durring the flight.
Safety:
We excercise a "hands off" approach and do not allow others traveling through the airport to greet or pet your puppy to help minimize any exposure to viruses or add any stress to your puppy. We also do our best to clean any areas and surfaces they puppy, carrier or pee pad may encounter. We take safety seriously when it comes to transporting your Anam Cara Pups to help you have a healthy, happy puppy upon arrival.
